Often, infection is found to be associated with inflammation. 1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles have been explored by a number of scientists worldwide these derivatives have emerged as potential lead molecules for development of newer antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents. The present work reports the synthesis and evaluation of some 2, 5-disubstituted 1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles and their pharmacological evaluation for antimicrobial, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. A fair number of compounds were found to have good anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema test, while all the compounds showed significant antibacterial activity. The contents of this book must make an excellent read for those interested in heterocyclic research.
