Produktbeschreibung
An international symbol of the city of Bristol since its very opening in 1864, this volume records the history of the Clifton Suspension Bridge from construction through to present day. The bridge was Brunel's first major project, and the engineer famously described it as "my first child, my darling." Certainly the strength of feeling for the bridge today has not diminished, as it remains one of Britain's best-loved--and most useful--sites. Here Michael Pascoe, an authority on the bridge, uncovers many previously unknown facts both about the bridge and Brunel himself. Combining the history with profiles, time lines, and fact boxes, as well as outstanding archive and modern photography, 150 years of this magnificent structure are celebrated in style within this fascinating and colorful book.
