The ambitious conception of the Poet bequeathed by the Pléiade continues to inspire the authors of the baroque period then the classical period. However, classical theorists are at the origin of a simplification of poetic writing that was particularly noticeable at the end of the 17th century, then in the 18th century. The different genres of classical poetry correspond to different objects of imitation or different ways to imitate.Lyric poetry expresses the situation of a person in whom passionate feelings overflow, which he manifests with all the energy, the boldness and the disorder of an imagination which no longer possesses itself; enthusiasm is the essence.Epic poetry or the epic depicts heroic actions and morals, by means of narrative, mixed with speeches and descriptions.
