The 1958 Rose Bowl was a college football bowl game played on January 1, 1958. In the game, the 44th Rose Bowl, the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Oregon Ducks by a score of 10 7. Jack Crabtree, quarterback of the losing Ducks, was named the Rose Bowl Player of the Game, one of only two players in Rose Bowl history from a losing team who won the award outright.Ohio State came into the game with a eight-game winning streak, having dropped their season opener to TCU and then winning the rest of their games. They were ranked no1 in the Coaches' Poll and no2 in the AP Poll behind Auburn (Auburn was on probation due to recruiting violations and was therefore not eligible for a bowl game). The Buckeyes were heavily favored to win the Rose Bowl.
