Lucas F. M. da Silva is Full Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). He leads the Advanced Joining Processes Unit (AJPU) of the Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering (INEGI). Maria de Fátima Reis Vaz is Full Professor with Habilitation of the Scientific Area of Mechanical Projects and Engineering Materials of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST)) and Researcher and Coordinator of the Materials and Manufacturing Processes Research Group IDMEC/LAETA (Mechanical Engineering Institute). Her research work includes materials characterization with particular focus on the structural and mechanical properties of materials. Marion Merklein is Chair of Manufacturing Technology at Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. Her research interests include mechanical engineering with a focus on forming, joining by forming, material characterization and modeling, additive manufacturing, and digitalization of production processes. Ricardo J. C. Carbas is currently Postdoctoral Researcher at the Advanced Joining Processes unit, part of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management (INEGI). He obtained his Ph.D. in functionally graded bonded joints from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto in 2013 and regularly carries out consultancy work for national and international companies.
