Autorenporträt
Born in the UK, Rob trained in classical piano and Drama and Theatre Arts. Moving to South Africa, he changed industries and trained and qualified as a Registered Nurse and Midwife, quickly moving into management roles. When he was 28 years old, he jumped from the clinical side of healthcare to the business side and into the sales and marketing of medical equipment and medical supplies. He quickly moved up to National Sales Manager citing his sales experience as a nurse ("If the patient didn't want his treatment, how do you think I got him to take it? - I sold it to him!") to land the job! After several years he moved to his family's business in the medical insurance industry; then onto his own start-up but was soon offered a position with a large National Company where he was rapidly promoted to National Marketing Manager for Capital Equipment (Medical). In the late 90's he decided to do some travelling and was away for several months. On returning, he took up a Nursing Management post for a 'temporary' period - looking for a new challenge in life! It arrived! He was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2000 and medically boarded shortly thereafter. Rob now spends his time writing and managing life with MS - "Much as everyone has their own issues and challenges to live with," he says. He writes a poetry blog, 'The Wayward Warrior' at: robmcshane.wordpress.com and is working on a series of business books where he feels he can share his business experience in a modern way and with some new ideas, to help others. He is also working on both a prequel and a sequel to the MageStaff - his first novel. "One thing is for sure," he says. "Life may knock you down but it's your choice whether you want to stay down or find that strength within to pull yourself up, often with some help, and choose to move. Even if it's in a different way than you originally thought! Flexibility and adaptability is the name of the game as the world grows and changes - and, hopefully, so do we!"
