By turns candid, witty, and poignant, this volume is an American professor's much-praised memoir of her experiences in Japan and with the Japanese. Davidson not only transforms readers' image of the country, but she offers a stirring look at its culture and identity. Often funny, sometimes liltingly sad, the book is as intimate and irresistible as a long-awaited letter from a good friend.
