Allah: this word originates from "Ilâh" which in Arabic designates any object of worship. Then the vowel "I" having been removed and replaced by the letters "A" and "L" (which represent the definite article in Arabic), the word became Allah, a proper name which designates the one who alone deserves to be worshipped. He is Allah. Is this word whole (without a root) or does it derive from a root? First, it is a rootless noun since it has no plural. Secondly if it had a root it would imply the existence of matter from which it was derived. However, his name -glory to him- is as old as his very essence and the derivation is an accidental thing. Moreover, like proper names which do not necessarily express an attribute of the thing named, the former also does not always express attributes. It is therefore the name of the real being in whom are found all the qualities of divinity and who is qualified with all the divine attributes. He is the only one who possesses real existence. It is a proper name reserved for the supreme essence, as for all the divine qualities to which no one is an exception. It is a whole word which can be qualified, but which cannot be used to qualify.
