The parking garage was called the Palace. It was located between Clark and LaSalle in downtown Chicago. At approximately 6:15 p.m. on a busy week day evening, Joe Daniels, a prominent attorney, settled into his new BMW convertible, placed his foot on the brake, and pressed ignition. A bomb exploded. Daniel's car was destroyed but he survived. In A Bomb in the Palace, Billy Dee Jackson and his ex-partner Detective Shepard received the call to investigate the blast. They learned Daniels was not just an attorney, but had a side business of selling guns to the gangs. The wholesaler of those weapons, Hugo, was also associated with a terrorist group whose viciousness in the name of the cause led to kidnapping and murder. At the same time the fallout from a disintegrating marriage destroyed not only the Palace but a career.
