Antonio (Tonio) Centeio was born in 1987 as the oldest of six children on the scenic island of Fogo, Cape Verde, off the west coast of Africa, where the picturesque landscape of fertile farmland, endemic plant gardens, and the volcanic mountain Pico do Fogo shaped his romantic view of the world at an early age. At age seven he immigrated to the United States with his mother and two brothers for a better life, all the while writing stories and detailed expressions of his innermost thoughts and feelings. This turned him in a poetic direction, and he found himself feeling a profound sense of freedom and wholeness whenever he completed a new poem. This feeling, bolstered by the numerous positive reactions his posted poems received, convinced him that poetry was his natural outlet for his emotions. His near-death experience on March 11, 2015, coupled with encouragement from many friends and fans to pursue his poetic talent more fully, confirmed his calling as a poet and spawned his first book, A Book About You: A Heart's Journey to Love. A resident of Dorchester, Massachusetts, Tonio is working on a novel to be released in 2017. He aims to write and publish Spanish soap operas and more poetry books in the future. When not working or writing poetry, he pursues love, romance, music, fitness, power-naps, friends, family, and life itself.
