One of Colorado's oldest congregations, Central Christian Church of Denver was founded in 1873, before the territory became a state. Through the years, Central's membership has included some of the most prominent figures in Colorado history, including Governor John Routt and U.S. Senator Thomas Patterson. In the mid-twentieth century, Central was one of the largest congregations west of the Mississippi River.Throughout its long history, Central has occupied several different sanctuaries, and in 1971 relocated from downtown Denver to Cherry Creek South Drive, where it is currently located. "A Brief History" is the first written history of Central Christian, Denver since the centennial celebration in 1973.
