Vincent Thomas Vok has been writing prose, poems and songs for five decades. Born the son of a coal miner in the town of Crucible, in southwestern Pennsylvania, he followed his path to New York City, where he fell in with the West Village music scene, working and performing at the legendary Gerdes Folk City. He released his debut album "Survivor" to critical acclaim in 1983. Original copies of the vinyl have become an underground collector's item, EBbay. Songs from that album and others can be found on his YouTube channel: Voksongs. An integral part of Staten Island's arts and music scene for the last twenty years, he has hosted and performed in singer/songwriters' events, directed and performed in theater productions, written a rock opera called Love During Chaos, and received a grant to write a score for Shakespeare's The Tempest. His essay, "Tuesday 9/12", about his experiences as a first responder to the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center appears in the college history textbook A History of our Time: readings on post war America, published by Oxford Press, now in its seventh printing. He says that wherever he has gone as a poet, artist, singer/songwriter, 9/11 first responder, middle school teacher, or bouncer there have always been angels urging him on to try something new. This is his first book of poetry.
