The book looks at the Comparative Description of the Syntax of the Noun Phrases in English and in Fante (Akan). It explores how constituents are structured or ordered in both languages. The constituent structures that function as modifiers: the Quantifiers, Determiners, Adjectival Phrase, Possessive Phrase, the Lexical Noun, Prepositional Phrase, the Identity Article and the Relative Clause were analyzed on the linear and the hierarchical levels. The influence of Chomsky s Theory of Generative Syntax (X-bar) is evident throughout. This book was written with the intent that it could be read at several academic levels, but particularly, with both undergraduate and postgraduate students who are new to X-bar Analysis of Phrase Structure. It is also going to help readers who would want to learn or teach language. The book will equip readers with the requisite knowledge for linguistic methodology and analysis.
