MDG 8 is a commitment by all countries to co-operate and share resources to achieve the first seven MDGs. However, achieving MDG 8 does not only depend on the individual countries but also on the international organisations that have dedicated themselves to ensuring that countries meet this goal. This book shows that progress on global commitments for improved aid, fairer trade and steep debt relief will determine, to a large extent, the successful achievement of the first seven MDGs by 2015 in most if not all developing countries and most importantly the achievement of MDG 8. This book highlights the role that the WTO plays in ensuring that countries meet MDG 8. One of the ways that the WTO promotes trade is by facilitating the creation of global partnerships for development for countries, particularly developing and least developed countries. This book also looks at the shortcomings of the WTO. In addition, the book looks at the efforts, progress, challenges and shortcomings ofinternational organisations, African countries towards achieving this goal. The author uses South African and Zambian perspectives as a basis of her argument.
