Ten years after the stipulation of the Treaty of Lisbon, the European Union is launching a new medium-term strategy. This time, this has to be done in an economic context radically different from the one of 2000 and deeply marked by the economic crisis that has been gripping Europe since 2008. The EU has to put its future into its own hands. With 'Europe 2020', the EU sets itself the goal of the creation of a social market suitable for the 21st century. The central aim of this project is to examine, considering all the variables, the trends of the 28 EU countries using a cluster analysis technique. Therefore, it will be necessary to explain the methods of grouping units on the theoretical level and then, the research will move on to an analytical phase in. The key question that needs to be answered is: are the European countries following the right path to achieve the results set in 2010 by the strategy 'Europe 2020'?
