To date, several books and research articles have focused on the issue of syllabus design and curriculum development. This book aims to provide a critical review on the different approaches to syllabus designing. This is intended to offer a descriptive and critical interpretation of the different syllabi in the domain of language teaching and learning. It covers the major approaches from a historical perspective and discusses their features precisely. The focus is on the Notional Approach to syllabus designing, its distinctive features, and semantico-grammatical categories, and a critique on its merits and different works on the Notional Syllabus.
