A Crystal Age is a novel written by W. H. Hudson. It tells the story of a man who falls asleep in the late 19th century and wakes up in a utopian society 200 years in the future. The society is characterized by its technological advancements and its adherence to a strict moral code. The protagonist, named Smith, struggles to understand and adapt to this new world, as he is used to the individualistic and materialistic values of his own time. Along the way, he falls in love with a woman named Edith, who helps him navigate the customs and beliefs of the society. However, their relationship is threatened by the arrival of a group of outsiders who challenge the established order. The novel explores themes of morality, progress, and the tension between individualism and collectivism. It is considered a classic of utopian literature and an important work in the history of science fiction. The colour of their dresses varied, but in most cases different shades of blue and subdued yellow predominated. In all, the stockings showed deeper and richer shades of colour than the other garments; and in their curiously segmented appearance, and in the harmonious arrangement of the tints, they seemed to represent the skins of pythons and other beautifully variegated serpents. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
