Sometimes governments of poor or developing countries take projects without considering the sustainability and in the long run those projects become disastrous for the environment and for the people. Sustainable development has three constituent parts: environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and social-political sustainability. Bangladesh government and people of Bangladesh faced a development disaster due to the blowouts that were taken place in Tengratila gas field popularly known as NIKO-Chhatak Gas Field. These blowouts took place while a gas exploration project was being implemented by BAPEX and its partner agency NIKO Resources Ltd. This book is based upon a study on the impact of the blowouts along with survey and some case studies. The Key findings of the study are: Number of unemployed persons increased. Thus poverty enhanced. People's participation was not ensured in designing and implementation of the project. There was a huge degradation of natural environment caused by the blowouts. Both underground water and surface water became scarce and polluted. Social environment was also affected as there was destruction of roads, schools, and agriculture.
