Autorenporträt
Mary Alice Sutherland is the author and illustrator of A Hibernating Bear and a Holiday Hare and Stories in Verses for the Child You Love. She is also the translator (under her married name, Mary S. Eigsti) of After Daguerre: Masterworks of French Photography (1848-1900) from the Bibliothèque Nationale, a publication of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A native of Indiana, Sutherland was formerly an administrator at two major New York City arts institutions and subsequently at a California humanities center. She did her undergraduate studies at Indiana University, Bloomington, spent a postgraduate year at Strasbourg University, France, and earned her MA at the University of Bristol, England. She currently resides in California. Sutherland's books for children reflect her delight in the fanciful inventiveness and curiosity of young minds, and her enjoyment and amusement in the exuberance of youngsters. Adults as well as children find much pleasure in her verses and illustrations. Subjects include children's activities and experiences, animals, holidays, places and fanciful situations.
