Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is one of the most important technologies of this century. Its design is influenced by many factors such as transmission errors, network topology and power consumption. Consequently, developing a WSN application introduces several implementation challenges. This book describes the deployment and routing problem, which is the most fundamental issue in WSN designing. This book describes a hybrid optimization technique for deployment and routing of nodes in wireless sensor networks. The hybrid optimization technique uses fuzzy logic for the selection of nodes and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique to deploy and route the nodes in the bounded region. The main aim of the technique in deployment is to provide a better network coverage as well as energy efficiency compared to the other algorithms. In routing the proposed algorithm finds an optimal route for minimizing the data path loss and the sensors energy consumption as well as maximizing the data accuracy. The hybrid optimization technique increases the network coverage faster than the other algorithm in terms of iteration times because PSO converges faster.
