A Letter in my mind, first published in 2011 and now in its Second Edition, is an introspective novel primarily set in a hospital, a significant place in the author's personal experience. The protagonist, Andrea, is a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit. Through his encounters with pain and death he undergoes an inner journey of growth and self-analysis. A reserved and taciturn person, Andrea, in dialogue with others and in proximity to illness, feels that through his profession and close contact with suffering, one can dedicate oneself to life, rediscovering its value, intensity, and beauty. The perspective, often cynical and coldly realistic, is far from the sentimental approach that television (un)culture has accustomed us to. In this reissue of the novel, the author includes an Appendix featuring the piece he submitted to the "Florence Nightingale" literary competition, organized in 2020 by the Order of Nursing Professions in Terni, which earned him a Special Mention from the jury. With this addition, the author completes a cycle of reflection and introspection, enriched by the decade of life experiences that separate the two editions.
