Irene Burns met her husband-to-be, Don, in high school at the end of their sophomore year. They married soon after in 1955, and Don continued his college schooling. They moved to a small red farmhouse, where they began to raise their family and take in other children and friends who needed help and a place to stay. Their family now numbers 9 children and 24 grandchildren.
