During the Great Depression, few women found work. Not so for young Vera Williams, who became a railroad telegrapher before finishing high school. Then she worked her way through college as a relief agent for the Northern Pacific Railroad. Vera later earned her PhD in education, and became known as the train-loving professor at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. 'Tales of the Rails' are highlights from her most memorable days.
