Although her earliest-known book (Marjorie's Way) was published in 1904, she had been in the literary profession by 1895 according to her marriage record.

Alice Curtis Turner (1860-1958) was a New England native who wrote nearly 40 books of historical fiction featuring young heroines in the American Revolution and Civil War. A Little Maid of Province Town was the first of her Little Maid books. She wrote 24 in all, each telling of a a young girl's adventures in Colonial America during the American Revolution.
