Edward Gwin, Sr. (born 1747) was the son of Mordecai of Orange County, North Carolina where Edward is documented as being a lieutenant, captain, major and colonel in the American Revolution - a soldier from the beginning to the end. The Gwin's or Gwinn's were instrumental in the development of Carroll County and helped to promote its growth and government. Webster Gilbert was born about 1780 in North Carolina, died after 1840. Webster was one of the early pioneers of Tennessee. In the War of 1812, Webster suffered many privations. There are three proven children of Webster Gilbert and wife, Susannah Byrd: John Gilbert, Webster Gilbert, Jr., and William Gilbert. William and other members of the family migrated to Carroll County, Tennessee in 1830. This detailed family history is a must for anyone researching these lines.
