The current upheavals in African society south of the Sahara are having an impact on the various aspects of medicine observed in this region of the world. Chronic diseases are on the increase and infectious diseases, which have long been predominant, are changing. Among the latter, mycoses, infections due to fungi, pose a real challenge to public health, which Medical Mycology must take up. If one of the most striking examples was the outbreak of neuro-meningeal cryptococcosis in the context of the HIV epidemic, other deep-seated mycoses are now to be feared. These are infections considered as a price of modern medicine (broad-spectrum antibiotics, vascular catheters, immunosuppressive treatments, chemotherapy), which are today the prerogative of industrialized countries and which will be used tomorrow for African patients.
