This book discusses novel techniques of solubility & dissolution enhancement of -poorly water soluble drug- Olmesartan medoxomil. Olmesartan medoxomil is a selective Angiotensin II receptor blocker drug used in the treatment of hypertension. It is a model drug of the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS) class II which is characterized by poor water solubility and good permeability. It suffers from low bioavailability following oral administration using traditional dosage forms due to its poor aqueous solubility and efflux by drug resistance pumps in the gastrointestinal tract. It needs to be incorporated into a dosage form that enhances its solubility and overcomes these limitations. However, formulating olmesartan medoxomil as immediate release dosage forms, possess great challenge due to its poor aqueous solubility.
