This book proposes a current research agenda on crowdfunding from two different approaches, mass media and geography. It is believed that these two elements may exert some influence on the dynamics of investment allocation in this market. Semantic analysis of media news can be a useful tool for investors to examine their exposure to risk and be able to predict the return on their investment. Geography, on the other hand, can be used in the origin of the financial contributions and, therefore, reveal information on the location and the regional characteristics of the investors. As the literature review presented in this paper points to the fact that these approaches may influence the decision to allocate capital in crowdfunding, it is recommended that public initiatives be developed that encourage the development of new crowdfunding platforms as a way of capitalizing financial resources for areas that have not yet been covered by collective funding.
