Environmental degradation is one of the most pressing issues facing us today in the twenty- first century. Rapid industrialization and a quest for economic growth has led to the depletion of natural resources putting undue strain on the biosphere. This book is a sincere attempt to gain an understanding of the environmental problems facing us today, through the medium of literature. Since a deep connection exists between human culture and the natural world, ecocritics believe that the only way, we as literary scholars can contribute towards environmental restoration is by gaining a deeper understanding of our ethical systems. An ecocritical analysis of the texts taken in this book proves that creating an ethical understanding of our environment can go a long way in resolving environmental problems as well as achieving environmental justice.
