Dead men can't escape from their graves and walk away, can they? Sheriff Nick Dunn of the Carter County Sheriff's Office doesn't believe in the supernatural and is convinced that the incident is an act of vandalism carried out by a gang of juvenile hoodlums. When the missing body fails to turn up in a search of the cemetery, Dunn opens his investigation into the macabre and bizarre case. Through Patrice Cavanaugh, widow of the deceased, and her sister, Gabby Morgan, Dunn learns that Bradley Cavanaugh was an aggressive, abusive alcoholic who had multiple enemies in life. Did one of them steal his body from its grave as retribution for Cavanaugh's wrath against them? Or was the body taken for a more vengeful purpose, one that will terrorize Patrice and drive her insane? As Dunn closes in on who's behind the disappearance of a human corpse, he realizes that Patrice is in grave danger from someone extremely close to her, someone who hated her husband passionately and had sworn revenge on him for destroying her life. When Dunn comes face to face with the horrifying truth, he encounters a reality that's too unbelievable to be true.
