The following thesis answers to a situation present in the teaching-learning process of English for 10th graders from "José Martí" Senior High School where some limitations concerning the development of the writing skill were detected: Limited use of lexico-grammatical structures, insufficient use of cohesive devices, incorrect application of mechanics and punctuation, incorrect organization of ideas. In order to surpass the difficulties, it was designed a system of exercises to improve the writing skill throughout the mentioned syllabus. In the investigation, theoretical and methodological foundations of the development of the writing skill were assumed. Some methods and techniques were applied. From the theoretical level: the analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, historical-logical and the systemic-structural; from the empirical level: the document analysis, observation, interview, survey, the pedagogical test and the specialists´ criteria. Also mathematical procedures such as percentage analysis were used. The solution proposed to the scientific problem was based on contextualized exercises so as to favor the development of the writing skill.
