Paul Ruggieri, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon in private practice in southeastern Massachusetts. Dr. Ruggieri received his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. Dr. Ruggieri completed his surgical internship and residency at Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri. After his medical training, Dr. Ruggieri joined the Army and was stationed at the U.S. Army hospital in Fort Polk, Louisiana. During his time in the military, he rose to the rank of major, received the Army Commendation and Meritorious Service Medals, and became the chief of the department of surgery. In 1995, Dr. Ruggieri entered a private surgical practice near Nashville, Tennessee. In 1998, he returned to his native New England to join a surgical group in southeastern Massachusetts. Dr. Ruggieri is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. He is also the co-author of A Simple Guide to Thyroid Disorders (Addicus Books, 2010) and is the author of The Surgery Handbook: A Guide to Understanding Your Operation (Addicus Books, 1999).
