Alcoholism and drug addiction have been a source of serious behavioral problems for thousands of years in the world. Excessive indulgence in them has been considered criminal behavior. Recent studies have established that there are more psychiatric, psychological and social problems than anything else that ruin the individuals and the society emotionally and economically. Drug abuse, alcoholism, terrorism, poverty, unemployment and crime are not individual problems but affect the Public at Large. Individual Problems affect one individual or one group. The sociologist aims to understand how these problems crop in the functioning of different social structures, to study the operation of varied patterns of interrelationships in society and how people are affected by them, and to observe how social systems need to be reorganized and restructured in dealing with them. Relating theory to practice provides a scientific perspective to treat the problem.
