Some of the short stories in the collection shed light on various aspects of life in a post-communist state in South Eastern Europe during its long and painful transition from a totalitarian system into a facade democracy and a faulty market economy. Other short stories deal with severe social prejudice in third world countries or with charity, done by gifted children in advanced EU countries. The lives of the main protagonists in most of these tales are struck by a a tragic turnaround of fate, involving a long-suffering readjustment to a new challenging situation. However, they are strong personalities who do not give up easily. They follow their dreams or stick to their vocation, in spite of the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. What gives them extraordinary resilience and moral integrity in hard times is their unfailing belief in God and in their mission to serve their community. They make a difference in the lives of hundreds of individuals by giving them good mental and physical health and a good chance to find their own place under the sun.
