Autorenporträt
Michelle Kolbe is an award-winning poet for the Daughters of the American Revolution national poetry contest. This book is based on her poem, A Stitch In Time. During high school she became the family historian when an assignment to learn more about her grandparents led to a lifelong pursuit to research her family's ancestry. She's often heard answering the question, "What was that old family story again?" As a genealogist, she's taught classes, written articles, edited books, been interviewed, and traveled internationally. Michelle's love of embroidery came from spending many loving hours with her grandmother as that skill passed from one generation to the next. Her countless projects always highlight family in one way or another. Several decades into her genealogy research she saw the family needlework heirloom from England. The varied materials, threads, and beads joined together to narrate the family story. Born and raised in Michigan, Michelle excelled in leadership and academics. As the first female newspaper carrier in her hometown she delivered freedom of the press at an early age. During high school her work in the city library afforded her the opportunity to develop a deep love and appreciation for books and authors. Later she moved to Arizona and raised two wonderful children with her loving husband of forty years. She has retired from a fulfilling career as a registered nurse and continues to write children's books and is a member of The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Now, a grandmother herself, four enchanting grandchildren fill her life with love and laughter. Reading bedtime stories and telling family tales to them are among her favorite activities.
