A Stroke of The Pen is a collection of short stories and poems, all of which are fiction. Each in its own way may evoke some little memory for the reader. Some are of a more serious nature, bringing a smile to the face or a shiver to the spine, but hopefully all of them are entertaining.

Autorenporträt
Francis Brown was born in County Down, Northern Ireland towards the end of the Second World War. A product, or perhaps a by-product, of Regent House Grammar School. He went on to do an engineering apprenticeship. In 1990 he moved to live in Plymouth, Devon and decided to have a complete career change, going into Care Work in nursing and residential homes, and E.M.I. units. This was followed by a move to York in 1992, where he continued in Care Work gaining a City and Guilds Diploma in Community Care Practice. For the last few years he has been involved in Community Services transporting elderly, disabled people and adults with learning difficulties to and from day services in the York Area. Over a few years he has written some short stories and poems, mainly for his own amusement. Following a slight stroke in 2007 and now retired, he decided it was a good time to progress with his writing. As a member of York Writers group, he made the decision to put his short stories and poems together, with a view that all profits from the book be donated to the Stroke Association charity, his way of saying thank you for the care he received.
