This tribe is of the Theravada or Hinayana form of Buddhism. They are now found mostly in the few districts of upper Assam and the adjoining regions of Arunachal Pradesh, India. This book discusses about the ethno-history, institution, practices, socio-religious festivals, role of Vikkhus and Viharas and also about traditional beliefs of the Khamtis of Assam. It also focuses on how the Khamti tribe has been maintaining their identity and religious tradition since the time of their migration. one of the main objectives of this book is to enhance the scope to establish a cultural connectivity between India's north-east and the countries of Southeast Asia.
