English is the most widely used international language but it appears to be a difficult subject for the rural and Tamil medium students after they enter a premier institution like Anna University. The teaching methods and syllabus have been designed to meet the communicative needs of students in real life context. However, the outcome is below the expected level. Therefore, this study was undertaken to use film as a teaching aid for developing communication skills in engineering students. The first chapter outlines various teaching aids used in language teaching. In the second chapter, the researcher analyses how film is used to teach different subjects. The third chapter defines communication, presents the films selected for teaching communication skill, and importance of Tamil Films in ELT. The fourth chapter discusses the learners' performance in the various activities and shows their marked improvement in their communicative ability. The concluding chapter sums up the inferences drawn from the analysis of responses given by the Engineering students of the University. The study proves Tamil films carrying English words were greater attraction in teaching of communication skills.
