The study is an attempt to understand the problems faced especially by the slum dwellers in the Capital city of Delhi. The mushrooming slums due to continuous influx of migrant labor in search of livelihood enter into the city to serve in various developmental and real estate activities, this has resulted in the unchecked growth of slums in Delhi. The slums have grown so vast, now it is posing a big challenge for the town planners and causing hindrance in the planned development of Capital city of Delhi. In the absence of any strict regulatory measures with the municipal corporations as well the urban planners, the city is facing vast growth in the slum population jeopardizing the basic civic amenities. The study also throws light on the plight of slum children and their inability to attend schools due to household responsibilities. The schools are available as well as the non-formal centers are also there, however retaining children in schools remains a challenge. The implementation of Right to Education Act (2009) perhaps might enable such children to continue schooling and the child labor act also perhaps can prevent them from getting into jobs by avoiding schooling.
