Grasses belong to family Poaceae and have over 10,000 members all being fundamentally different from other plants.Restoration of plant communities, maintenance of biodiversity, landscaping, erosion control are some of the ecological uses of grasses. The use of large number of plant species by the tribals to meet their daily requirements is largely due to the prevalence of diversity of vegetation in South East Rajasthan. The South-Eastern rajasthan boasts a maximum number of grass species.Due to recurrent droughts and overgrazing several persistent grass species are dwindling and many of them are on the verge of extinction.Due to lack of awareness and research on this important group of plants, people of this region are unkbown of this wealth of heritage. In the present study therefore an attempt has been made to bring out an updated account of the grasses of South East Rajasthan and efforts are made to explore their maximum utility.
