Competencies are becoming a frequent in organizational applications. Competency can be defined as an underlying characteristic required to perform a given task, activity or role. Three factors that are important for identifying competency in a person are Knowledge, Skills and Attitude.Competency differs from industry to industry and from department to department. The brainstorming sessions and pooling of ideas listed three different competencies sets which were identified and the production managers were asked to rate both the level of importance and the level of possession. The competencies included Inter - personal,Intra personal and Technical the barriers in achieving the competencies and methods to overcome the barriers are also dealt in detail.
