Autorenporträt
Nancy Baren Miller has had a successful career as an outdoor and travel writer. The novel fictionalizes many of her experiences as a camper for five years and counselor for one. Before her writing career, Nancy dreamed of having her own camp. This vision was realized, when at the age of 17, she wrote A Summer at Camp Floridian. The novel was seriously considered by a major publisher at that time.Having majored in psychology at the University of South Florida, she turned to people oriented activities rather than writing until her mother, Becky Baren, was dying of cancer in 1987. Her mother had been the first editor of the novel. Knowing how important this book was to Becky, Nancy reedited it and sent it out twice. After writing children's stories in 1988, she wrote in 1989 a column for an Ohio weekly newspaper on RVs and camping. Her career grew as she turned to travel and RV writing for many newspapers and magazines. By the time she retired as a free lancer in 2007, she had published more than 500 articles in over 30 sources, many of them national. She was a member of Midwest Travel Writers Association and Outdoor Writers of America from which she won writing awards. She also received recognition for her writing from the Ohio House of Representatives for her professional achievements and civic commitment. In 2012, 32 friends encouraged Nancy and her husband, Earl, to send them travel articles and photos during their RV trips. This turned into starting NanMillerTimes.com in 2014. It has more than 160 articles and 3,500 photographs on attractions and restaurants found in small and midsized towns. It has received coverage in Motorhome magazine and Akron, Ohio's West Side Leader. Because of requests from her readers for her to write a book, she has revised and reedited A Summer at Camp Floridian and is publishing it.The Millers continue to travel in their motorhome with their cat, Pierre, and enjoy reporting on the interesting places they find. Besides having visited all 50 states, they have also taken more than 30 cruises and toured over 60 countries worldwide.
