The study has taken into account the relative efficiency of Private sector banks in India. Both old generation and new generation private sector banks are taken for the purposes of this research. Relative efficiencies are identified based on the data available in the financial statements of banks. The selected banks from private sector banks of India have identified and 25 ratios have taken into account for the study. The research compares banks on 25 key ratios. Banks are ranked on each ratio based on the degree of efficiency displayed. Since bank performance is not uniform across various ratios the research analyses overall efficiency using the data envelopment analysis approach. The research takes into consideration the wage bills of the bank rather than number of employees as the number of employees parameter does not take into consideration the various features distinguishing types of employees, their role, their effectiveness and quality. The discussion of the hypotheses and contribution to the body of knowledge has given way to understand the research work.
