CHAOS FOR THE FLY Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). TBI is often described as a dance of three steps forward, two steps back. More than 50% of TBI survivors develop mental health challenges. For others, mental health complications and addictions pre-existed the TBI. CHAOS FOR THE FLY Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). TBI is often described as a dance of three steps forward, two steps back. More than 50% of TBI survivors develop mental health challenges. For others, mental health complications and addictions pre-existed the TBI. Who could have EVER imagined that (after seven months in hospital, TBI, coma, craniotomy, full life support, and rehab directed at learning to walk & talk again) "they" would simply release Matthew, a damaged 24-year-old gang member to his full-time employed mother, with no counseling, no supports in place, no warnings of what to expect or what to do - "sink or swim" method? Maybe this could happen in a war-torn, third-world country - but in 2002 CANADA? And so, just like that, the spider's web had its meager beginning-a web all too familiar yet equally unpredictable. The web is cause and effect personified, with that "three steps forward, two steps back" tango revealing a precarious balance to freedom or a sticky path to unbridled chaos. The TALE OF TWO PSYCHES series is meant to forewarn and clarify the propensities that lurk under the surface of any TBI survivor and any addict. This true story is for survivors, families, caretakers, corrections personnel and law enforcement, alike. It's for everyone who thought they knew, but learned they didn't - and determined that what they didn't know could fill a book. Two psyches... Hindsight is unquestionably 20/20.
Autorenporträt
Sarah Martin can't remember a time when she didn't want to be a writer. As a child she wrote short stories for her family as Christmas presents. But it took a series of extraordinary events to jumpstart her career as a writer after twenty years as a secondary school teacher and ten as a fundraiser. In 2012 she published a biography, followed by two histories and a children's picture book. During lockdowns in Melbourne throughout COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021, she indulged her secret passion for writing fiction, and completed four novels, Azita and Me being the first to be published. She has discovered almost by accident that much of her writing is inspired by her exploration and love of the natural environment, which has meant she has had to confront the connected issues of climate change. She sees her fiction as a means of expressing these interests in a creative and non-confrontational way.
