Author Manuel Borges de F. Henriques (c.1833-1873) was a native of Flores island, Azores,who had lived in the Boston area from a young age. His book, "A Trip to the Azores or Western Islands," published in 1867 in Boston, is the only book known to be of his authorship. In his book, he describes returning to his native land after an absence of eighteen years. He was a merchant, consul of Portugal and vice-consul of Brazil in Boston, but committed suicide in 1873 due to financial problems.
