"The Strange Side of War: A Woman's WWI Diary" is taken from Sarah Macnaughtan's personal records of events as she saw them unfold. Her views and patriotism are from a British stance. She had the unique opportunity to experience World War I from several cultural and political aspects during her attempts to alleviate the suffering in Belgium, France, Russia, and Persia (as Iran was known at that time). Her unique observations are about how the war impacted people-from the thrill-seekers going to battlefields for fun, to the nurses working among the wounded in darkness, and London society women venturing into foreign lands to work near dangerous enemy lines.
