The adventures of the narrator, nicknamed "Gingerbread", were not written to extol the "greatness" of communism, and hide its crimes against humanity, but merely to relate the author's lurid sexual adventures with young men. While Gingerbread thought his stories would meet the demand of readers with similar tastes, he unwittingly penned descriptions of the situation as it was in Central Europe during the Cold War (1947-1991).
