Autorenporträt
Nonku Kunene Adumetey is an Eswatini-born award-winning children's book author. Her greatest joy is being a mother. Like her children, her inspiration is energized by a love of music, the power of storytelling, and a good home-cooked meal. Her career as a children's book author stems from a deep appreciation for family, diversity, and community. Her mission is to bring families together and spark meaningful conversations about self-love, a sense of belonging, and individuality. She publishes books that inspire all children to celebrate who they are, understand their differences are beautiful, know their diversity is a strength, and believe their voices matter.Nonku's hero is her late father, Themba Micah Kunene, a man from humble beginnings who worked tirelessly to provide a full life for his eight children. Her father's unconditional love, wisdom, and work ethic inspire the core of Nonku's principles and life mottos. One of his favorite mottos was "umtsentse uhlaba usamila," a saying about a strong grass that gets deeply rooted during its early stages of development. The essence of this saying embodies the importance of early childhood education. Teaching young minds invaluable lessons about who they are and how they fit in this world so that they grow up strong and informed about themselves and the world around them. This is what inspires Nonku to write children's books, to empower young minds for a greater future.Nonku lives in Chicago with her husband and two children.
