Against the claim that the history of the female subaltern subject cannot be retrieved, this book argues that it is possible to retrieve, at least, fragments of this forgotten history as it is methodologically impossible to retrieve it in its integrity. The book shows that the subaltern woman in Return to Childhood is a real historical agent who actively contributes to the struggle for national liberation. It also shows that the female subaltern can resist the silencing effect of the colonial and patriarchal systems to emerge in the autobiography as a speaking subject.
