She has won many publishing awards including the American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award and the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Book Review Award. Karen is a frequent presenter at national seminars covering psychiatric nursing and alternative therapies. She is a member of the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses and the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
